NECO registration for 2027 opens tomorrow, Monday 2 November 2026. In its registration arrangements for the 2027 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal, NECO sets normal registration to close on Friday 26 February 2027 at 11:59 p.m., with a short late window from 27 February to 5 March 2027 that costs an extra ₦5,000 per candidate. The prescribed fee is ₦30,000 per candidate, registration is strictly through schools for SSS 3 students, and the examination itself is scheduled for Thursday 1 April to Tuesday 11 May 2027. NECO states there will be no extension. Here is everything candidates, parents and schools need before the portal opens.
Key Takeaways
- Registration opens Monday 2 November 2026 and normal registration closes Friday 26 February 2027 at 11:59 p.m. Late registration runs 27 February – 5 March 2027 at an extra ₦5,000 per candidate, and NECO says the deadlines will not be extended.
- The fee is ₦30,000 per candidate, plus items like the four-figure table (₦1,300) and certificate folder (₦2,500), and bank/Remita charges. Fees are non-refundable.
- The SSCE Internal is only for SSS 3 students registered through their schools. Private candidates are not eligible — they belong to the SSCE External (GCE). NECO has also prohibited transferring into SSS 3 in another school.
- Every candidate needs a valid NIN and will be issued an NLIN. Capture of all ten fingerprints is compulsory — no capture, no upload.
- The 2027 exam is dual-mode — hybrid computer-based (CBE) and pen-and-paper (PPE) — from 1 April to 11 May 2027.

Who Can Register — and Who Cannot
The SSCE Internal is strictly for final-year SSS 3 students, registered through schools in Nigeria or overseas:
- No private candidates. If you are out of school, the SSCE Internal is not your route — NECO runs the SSCE External (the GCE) for private candidates instead.
- No SSS 3 transfers. NECO has prohibited transferring into SSS 3 in another school — the school presenting you must be the school you attend.
- NIN first, NLIN on registration. Every candidate must present a valid National Identification Number, and each candidate is issued a unique National Learners’ Identification Number.
Fees: The ₦30,000 Fee and the Full Charge List
| Item | Approved amount |
|---|---|
| SSCE Internal registration | ₦30,000 per candidate |
| Four-figure mathematical tables | ₦1,300 per candidate |
| Waterproof certificate jacket / folder | ₦2,500 per candidate |
| Electronic photo album | ₦2,700 per pair, per school |
| Syllabus | ₦2,000 per copy |
| Unviable school fee (fewer than 20 candidates hosting on own premises) | ₦70,000 per school |
| Late registration penalty | Additional ₦5,000 per candidate |
| Non-validation correction penalty (after upload) | ₦10,000 per candidate |
Stamp duty, service and Revop/Remita charges apply on top, and registration fees are non-refundable — including payments made after the portal closes on an old invoice.
Worked Example: What One Candidate Actually Costs
Take one on-time candidate. Her per-candidate charges — registration ₦30,000, four-figure table ₦1,300, certificate folder ₦2,500 — total ₦33,800 before stamp duty, service and Remita charges. If her entry slips to the late window, she costs ₦38,800 — the ₦5,000 penalty buys nothing but a week of grace. If an error in her name or subjects surfaces only after upload, the ₦10,000 non-validation penalty takes the bill to ₦43,800. The arithmetic is the argument for registering early and checking the photocard: every unchecked detail in this process has a price.
How Schools Register Candidates: The Six Steps
Step 1 — Claim the school portal. Every school, new or returning, claims its portal on the NECO SSCE Internal registration website with the school’s official email and phone number; the default password goes to that email. Personal and cybercafé addresses are discouraged.
Step 2 — Install the 2027 offline application. Schools uninstall the old offline app, install the 2027 version, enter each candidate’s details including the NIN, and capture a recent, clear passport photograph in school uniform. NECO will not activate a school for payment if any photograph is blurred, and a candidate with a poor-quality photograph will not be issued a certificate.
Step 3 — Validate before upload. The school prints a photocard for every candidate to check — NIN, name, photograph, date of birth, gender, subjects, state of origin and local government area. Errors are corrected offline, and every candidate signs the validation list, which goes to the NECO State Office.
Step 4 — Capture all ten fingerprints. Biometric capture uses the FUTRONIC FS80H scanner and covers all ten fingers. Without it a candidate’s details cannot be uploaded, no one may capture fingerprints for another person, and a mismatch at verification is treated as impersonation.
Step 5 — Nominate supervisors and get activated. Registration cannot be completed without supervisor nominations — public schools nominate two supervisors and two assistants, private schools two supervisors, all meeting NECO’s qualification and TRCN requirements. The State Coordinator reviews the validation documents and activates the school for payment.
Step 6 — Pay and upload. Payment goes through the school’s portal into NECO’s Treasury Single Account via Revop/Remita — card, bank branch, transfer or USSD — confirmed with Verify Bank Payment. Instalments must start with at least 20 candidates. A candidate counts as registered only when the record is uploaded and a registration number is issued; the final photocard carrying that number is the candidate’s ID in the hall.
Corrections, CAS and Special Needs
Once details are uploaded, changing a photograph, name, date of birth, gender, subjects, state of origin or local government area is non-validation, at ₦10,000 per candidate. Photograph changes are allowed only before registration closes, and NECO will not accept changing a name and photograph at the same time. Schools must also upload SSS 1 and SSS 2 Continuous Assessment Scores termly via the NECO CAS portal, and candidates with special needs (low vision, blindness, albinism, hearing impairment, autism) are registered through the same process with their needs recorded.
The 2027 Exam Itself: Dual Mode, Earlier Window
The examination runs from 1 April to 11 May 2027 — earlier than NECO’s traditional June/July slot, in line with the harmonised 2027 calendar. It is dual mode: hybrid computer-based papers (CBE) alongside pen-and-paper papers (PPE); schools will be told which mode their candidates will use, and CBE schools must meet NECO’s approved centre standards. Either way, preparation needs both skills: clear written answers, and timed objective practice on a screen in our free CBT practice area.
What to Do This Week
- SSS 3 students: compare your NIN slip, line by line, with your school record now. A mismatch found in November is a correction; after upload it is a ₦10,000 penalty.
- Parents: budget ₦33,800 per candidate before bank and Remita charges, and expect payment to be made by the school through its portal — not to any individual’s account.
- Schools: claim the portal, install the 2027 offline app, and start with photographs and fingerprints — the two items that can block activation and upload.
- Private candidates: the SSCE Internal is not open to you. Your NECO route is the SSCE External, whose 2026 exam begins on Wednesday 4 November.
Frequently Asked Questions
When does NECO registration for 2027 close?
Normal registration closes on Friday 26 February 2027 at 11:59 p.m. A late window runs from Saturday 27 February to Friday 5 March 2027 at an extra ₦5,000 per candidate, when the portal closes at 11:59 p.m. NECO has stated there will be no extension, and schools must submit the payment receipt and endorsed final validation list by 12 March 2027.
How much is NECO registration for 2027?
The prescribed fee is ₦30,000 per candidate. Per-candidate extras in NECO’s charge list are the four-figure mathematical table (₦1,300) and the waterproof certificate folder (₦2,500), bringing an on-time candidate to ₦33,800 before stamp duty, service and Remita charges. Late registration adds ₦5,000 per candidate and fees are non-refundable.
Can I register for NECO SSCE Internal 2027 by myself?
No. The SSCE Internal is for SSS 3 students only and entries are made by schools: the school captures your details and fingerprints offline, you check and sign the validation list, and the school pays and uploads your entry, after which a registration number is issued. Candidates who are not in school enter the SSCE External (GCE) instead, which NECO announces separately.
